Meet the Illustrator
Equine artist, Karina Matteson's illustrations and fine art paintings create a window into the small moments that move all horse lovers: A look, a toss of the head or a flick of the ear. Showing the personality and athletic energy of the horse is her goal. Growing up, Karina held an active role in her family's Arabian horse farm, PCF Arabians, managing the broodmares and the foaling for many years. She is a self-taught artist, and her upbringing with horses can be seen reflected in her works by her attention to detail, accurately portraying correct equine conformation, spirit, and musculature. Karina's artwork can be seen annually on the cover of the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show Program and in private collections around the world. Sandra L. Sicilia is the author of Elekktrah and Friends, a children's book inspired by her lifelong love of horses and the quiet moments of connection they bring. Her stories are rooted in themes of curiousity, courage, gratitude and joy–celebrating the simple magic found in everyday adventures. Alongside her husband, Mike, and their family, Sandra is the founder of Fine Life Horses, where she has spent many years breeding and raising horses. Through this experience, she has come to appreciate the close bond between mares and their foals, and how early guidance and everyday lessons help shape confident, well-mannered horses for life. Through Elekktrah and Friends, Sandra hopes to invite readers of all ages to slow down, take in the beauty around them, and discover that joy can be found even in the small moments of a much bigger journey.
